The Ericksons: supporting Fairview is a family affair
Supporting Fairview runs in the Erickson family.
In late 2008, Cecelia Erickson died suddenly, leaving her estate to her mother, Doris, in the form of a trust. Doris died in 2009, leaving a portion of her assets, including what was left from Cecelia's trust, to Fairview Home Care and Hospice-approximately $80,000 from each woman.
Reed Erickson, Doris' nephew and executor of her estate, says the women's generous gifts stemmed from a positive experience they'd had with Fairview more than a decade ago.
Doris' husband, Lawrence, died "a very painful death with cancer, and Fairview Hospice brought so much comfort to them at that point," Reed says. "It was such a good experience, they thought it was valuable to include hospice in their wills."
Reed also tries to provide a good experience for patients: He and his wife, Mary Lou, were one of Home Care and Hospice's first pet therapy volunteer teams in 2007.
Donors like Doris and Cecelia Erickson are a testament to the work Fairview Hospice staff do out in the field each and every day.
